Help make the North Shore greener with every dollar you spend this Christmas season
16 December 2010
Shop locally this Christmas to support small to medium businesses and contribute to a more sustainable festive season as part of the Better Business Partnership.
More than 120 small to medium businesses across the North Sydney, Ku-ring-gai and Willoughby City Council areas are reducing their energy and water use and the amount of waste they send to landfill. They are also involving their staff, supporting the community and making more sustainable purchasing and transport decisions.
Ku-ring-gai Mayor Ian Cross is encouraging residents to take advantage of the wide range of local shops and services displaying the Better Business Partnership recognition sticker in their windows, indicating their dedication to business sustainability.
“Start your day with a sustainably sourced coffee and breakfast roll at Pablo and Rusty’s Specialty Coffee in Gordon, then pop over to West Pymble Shopping Village where you can do your groceries at IGA, buy the snags for the weekend BBQ at Campbell’s Superior Meats and choose toys for the kids at Little Daisies,” said Cr Cross.
“Pick up a snack at Munch Café before heading 30 meters down the road to buy some delicious treats at Otellos Chocolates and Patisserie. Drop the kids off at their dental appointment at Maxwell Swart and Associates, and while you’re waiting why not get a relaxing massage at West Pymble Beauty Therapy? The final stops on your itinerary might be West Pymble Cellars to pick up a bottle of wine or Price’s Pharmacy to fill your prescriptions.”
Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly also has an itinerary for the Willoughby City Council area that enables residents to get all their holiday shopping done right here in the local area.
“After you’ve dropped the children off to the Workshop Arts Centre in Willoughby for some holiday classes, leave the mower that is not coping with all the long grass at Artarmon Mowers. Whilst you’re in the Artarmon Village area, head over to Artarmon Vision Specialists for your new glasses and choose a stunning bouquet from Northside Flowers. Book your next holiday to get over this one at Flight Centre Artarmon and have a trim at Hair on Wilkes whilst your prescription is prepared at Nick Logan Pharmacist Advice.
“Pick up some salad at Artarmon Fruit Specialists and a chicken for lunch at Spitroast Shop Artarmon, then jump on the train to Your Skin Fitness Salon in Chatswood to buy some Christmas gift vouchers. Head home via the Castlecrag Quadrangle Shopping Village where you can pick up some meat from Sydney Butcher Boy’s, some wine at Castlecrag Cellars and a well earned coffee at Pam’s Café or Sugar and Spice,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.
“There are so many businesses in our area that are taking up the challenge of conducting more sustainable practices. I encourage our residents to show their support of their efforts by shopping at a Better Business this holiday season,” said the Mayor.
Better Business Partnership recognition stickers can be found on the front windows of participating businesses. For the full map of 120 participating businesses, visit the interactive map on the Better Business Partnership website at www.betterbusinesspartnership.com.au.
