Community Champions are Behind the Pump

08 December 2010

Trevor VanzellClimateClever community champions recognise the benefits of installing energy efficient hot water systems available through the ClimateClever Shop at www.climateclevershop.com.au

A heat pump system might be an option for residents in the participating council areas of Willoughby City, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Ku-ring-gai and Hunters Hill.

Heat pumps provide the home with hot water without having to rely on the sun. These systems use two thirds less electricity than a standard electric water heater, so householders can save money on energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

When Chatswood resident, Trevor Vanzell realised his old hot water system was on its last legs, he researched a number of different options and decided to install a heat pump.

"Solar wasn't an option for my house. Instead I installed a heat pump that saves me money off my power bills and reduces my carbon footprint," said ClimateClever champion, Mr Vanzell.

A range of special discounts are available from ClimateClever Shop suppliers until 31 December. ClimateClever Shop supplier of heat pump hot water systems, Eco Living Centre are offering a 264HP model system from as little as $2,846.51. Alternatively, residents of the participating council areas can access a six per cent discount off a system tailored to suit their home.

Financial incentives and rebates for efficient hot water systems are also available from local, State and Federal Governments. Willoughby City Council is offering Willoughby residents a $300 rebate for the purchase and installation of a solar or heat pump hot water system. Details, terms and conditions can be found through the ClimateClever Shop.

The NSW Government’s Home Saver Rebates help households save energy, water and greenhouse gas emissions by improving the efficiency of hot water systems. A $300 rebate is available for the replacement of an electric hot water system with a solar, heat pump or 5 star gas hot water system. For eligibility requirements, more information and details of other rebates available from the NSW Government, visit www.environment.nsw.gov.au/rebates or phone 1300 361 967.

“There are many great reasons to think about installing a more efficient hot water system – both environmental and economic. I encourage the community to join our champion, Trevor Vanzell in doing some homework and choosing the best option for your house. The ClimateClever Shop provides some great information about the systems available and also points our residents in the direction of special deals and financial incentives,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.
