Willoughby Council launches new online community forum
22 November 2010
Willoughby Council has launched a new online community, Talking Willoughby, to provide another avenue for its constituents to voice their opinions, provide feedback on what’s happening in the local area and help play a role in informing decisions made by council.
The free member-based online portal is available for Willoughby Council residents, rate payers, business owners or users of services and facilities in the local area.
The website offers several ways for members to interact and communicate their thoughts on important issues, including forums and regular surveys on ‘hot topics’. Regular e.newsletters will also be sent to members to keep them abreast of what’s happening in the local area and new developments on the site.
As an incentive to members, 20 $25 Woolworths shopping vouchers will be given away each month.
Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly said Talking Willoughby is an important new touch point between Council and the increasingly internet-savvy community.
“The internet is one of the most vital communication tools we have. It’s fast becoming the medium of choice for many people to find out information, and themselves be heard,” Mayor Reilly said.
“We wanted Willoughby Council to be a part of that online space. Council already has a presence on social networking sites like facebook and twitter, but we wanted to provide an innovative place for people to come together and make a difference by exchanging ideas and views about ways to influence the community’s future.”
Mayor Reilly encouraged locals to visit www.talkingwilloughby.com.au to become a member and familiarise themselves with the site, but reassured non-internet users that their opinions and feedback were also still appreciated.
“Talking Willoughby is designed to add another dimension to the way council interacts with the local community, not replace any existing lines of communication. If you don’t use the internet you can write a letter, attend a Council meeting, or call Council on 9777 1000,” Mayor Reilly said.
