Willoughby City Council’s free 2010 environmental workshops and events calendar is available now from council’s Help and Service Centre, level 4, 31 Victor Street, Chatswood.

The desktop calendar details more than 40 events and activities planned for 2010, including the return of some of the most popular workshops from 2009, along with many new courses to engage environmental stalwarts or workshop newcomers looking for some practical ways to engage with or improve their local environment.

Residents can expect workshops covering everything from cycling skills, installing a solar PV system, learning what happens to recycling, building habitat for native animals to keeping chooks in the backyard.

“Willoughby City Council offers a vast array of environmental workshops to appeal to the many different interests of members of our community. Most of the workshops are free and are a great way to learn new skills, meet like-minded people and give the local environment a helping hand,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.

“The most popular workshops offered in 2009 included Bush Tucker and Bushfoods, an Introduction to Organic Vegetable Gardening, Chooks in Your Backyard, Attracting Native Bees to Your Garden and a Cumberland Plain Bus Trip, all of which will be offered again in 2010,” said the Mayor.

“The desktop calendar includes some lovely images of our local native flora and fauna and provides a great reminder of what’s on during the year as well as when and how to book for the workshops,” he said.

Bookings are essential for all workshops.
