Free Movie Screening at Starlight Cinema
29 January 2010
Free screening of 'The Age of Stupid'
7pm – 10pm, Tuesday 9 February
Starlight Cinema, North Sydney Oval, Corner of Miller and Ridge Streets, North Sydney
A free screening of the The Age of Stupid at the Starlight Cinema on Tuesday 9 February aims to inspire North Shore residents to act locally to combat climate change.
The Age of Stupid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055 asking: “Why didn’t we stop climate change while we still had the chance?”
The free screening is presented by Mosman, North Sydney and Willoughby City Councils as part of their Footprints program.
The Footprints program is specifically tailored for residents aged 25 to 40 who are committed to reducing their ecological footprint. The program focuses on sustainability issues such as waste, water and energy and aims to promote social interaction and build community partnerships to support the reduction of environmental impacts.
“The Footprints program is an excellent avenue for our 20 and 30 somethings to learn positive and practical actions for reducing their environmental impact while in a social, relaxed and fun environment,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.
“The screening of The Age of Stupid is the first Footprints event for 2010. North Shore residents can also expect some fabulous, fun and engaging activities throughout the year including ecotrivia in the pub, an eco-baby workshop for those trying to live sustainably with little ones and an ‘eat well’ event at one of our local produce markets,” he said.
Gates open at 7pm for The Age of Stupid and the film will start at sundown.
