Celebrate being Australian and the local community at Willoughby City Council’s 2010 Australia Day celebrations 9.00am, Tuesday 26 January, Flag Court, Chatswood Mall, Victoria Avenue.
The 2010 Australia Day celebrations, lead by Australia Day ambassador, Neville Roach will include a citizenship ceremony, performance by the Australia Day Children’s Choir, the announcement of the Willoughby Citizen of the Year Award winners and a barbeque.
“Australia Day is a day of inspiration, reminding us to join together to celebrate being Australian and to care for our beautiful country,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly. “It is a wonderful day for citizens to unite and honour individuals that continue to make unremitting efforts to better the Australian community.
“The celebrations are also the perfect place to congratulate members of the community who make Willoughby the wonderful place it is through the Willoughby Citizen of the Year Awards,” he said.
The awards recognise citizens who either live, work or give voluntary time and effort within the community across four categories: Citizen of the Year Award, Award for Services to Young People, Young Citizen of the Year Award and Cultural and Community Builders Award.
Attendees will also hear from Willoughby’s Australia Day ambassador Neville Roach. Mr Roach is a highly respected business and community leader who since moving to Australia from India in 1961 has made a significant contribution to the IT industry, worked to strengthen Australia’s relationship with India and been involved in the development of social policy especially relating to immigration and multicultural relations.
