Join us for a close encounter with Willoughby’s familiar and more curious creatures at the annual Fauna Fair, 10am to 3pm, Sunday 9 August at Willoughby Park, corner of McClelland Street and Fourth Avenue, Willoughby.

This year’s Willoughby Fauna Fair will celebrate the diversity of our local native fauna, whether they have feathers, fur, fins, a shell, scales or skin.

The fair is a fun and engaging day out for the whole family with a range of games and activities for the kids, information stalls about living with our wildlife and exciting hands-on wildlife shows for fair goers to get up close and personal with some of Willoughby’s wildlife.

There will also be an emphasis on creating artificial habitat area for wildlife in our backyards. The traditional Fauna Fair kids’ wildlife craft activity will focus on creating backyard habitat to help skinks hide, and tips and information on the design and use of nest boxes that provide nesting sites for a wide range of hollow nesting species such as owls, possums, Kingfishers and Parrots will be on display.

“The ability of our wildlife to find the right habitat to breed in is essential for their long-term survival. We can all help by creating a wildlife friendly neighbourhood,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.

“At this year’s Fauna Fair a range of information stalls and displays will provide visitors with all the practical advice they need to help our wildlife and their families have a long future living in our suburbs,” he said.

Stall holders including Birds Australia, the Cat Protection Society, local vets, Sydney Wildlife Service, the Ku-ring-gai Bat Conservation Society and Willoughby City Council will provide information and demonstrations on a range of topics, such as the responsible care of companion animals, reducing our impact on wildlife and creating wildlife friendly gardens.
