18 June 2010

West Chatswood Library and Community Learning Facility will be officially opened at the Community Open Day on Saturday 26 June from 10.30am to 2pm, St Peter's Green, 565 Mowbray Road West, Lane Cove North.

Opening celebrations will begin with an official opening ceremony, followed by a range of activities for children including face painting, badge making, story time and craft as well as interesting sustainability and community learning displays hosted by Willoughby Park Centre. There will also be live entertainment performed by Mowbray Public School Band.

The new, modern library will provide a comprehensive lending collection, study facilities and regular activities for all ages, including preschoolers’ story time sessions, craft activities and book clubs. The facility also includes a flexible community space that can be hired for a multitude of activities, including community and club meetings, passive recreation activities such as yoga and functions such as birthday parties.

“The redevelopment brought about the opportunity to provide a new library and community facility for the local West Chatswood community,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.

“There has never been a library or community space in West Chatswood. The new library and community learning facility will provide a great resource for the local community as well as residents of St Peter’s Green.

“Not only will the facility offer a well resourced library for the local community, but it will also provide the community with a central meeting and recreation space,” said the Mayor.

From Monday 28 June, the West Chatswood Library and Community Learning Facility will open: Monday and Tuesday 2.30pm to 5pm, Wednesday 12.30pm - 6pm, Thursday and Friday 10am to 1pm, Saturday 9.30am to 12noon.

The West Chatswood Library will form part of Catholic Healthcare’s St Peter’s Green residential aged care facility. The multi-purpose seniors living development will also offer 27 modern design independent living units a public park and children's playground and a convenient cafe equipped with a delicious gourmet deli.
