Chinese New Year Celebrations – Year of the Ox

Willoughby City Council, in association with the Chinese Cultural Centre, will host an array of activities in celebration of Chinese New Year, Year of the Ox, 10am to 4pm, Saturday 30 January, Chatswood Mall, Victoria Avenue, Chatswood.
Chatswood mall will be transformed in spectacular colour assortment of red and gold in festivity of Chinese New Year. Spectators can enjoy dazzling live entertainment performances throughout the day including, lion and dragon dancers, magicians, Kung Fu demonstrations, folk dancing, Chinese opera singers and more than 30 stalls selling delicious Chinese food, art and craft.
The year 2009 welcomes the Year of the Ox. People born in the Year of the Ox are patient, speak little, and inspire confidence in others. Ox people are mentally and physically alert, easy-going, remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed.
“Chinese New Year festivities bring about a plethora of wonderful activities and entertainment families and the wider community can enjoy,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.
Celebrations will also include an exhibition highlighting the history of Chinese culture with a pictorial collection of Chinese painting and sculpture from the Art Gallery of New South Wales, alongside a display of the Year of the Ox artwork in the foyer exhibition space, Willoughby City Council Chambers, 9am to 5pm, weekdays from 19 January to 6 February.
