Calling on astronomy enthusiasts to take part in the National Trust Heritage Festival Star Gazing evening
27 February 2009
Willoughby City Council and the Northern Sydney Astronomical Society are seeking astronomy enthusiasts to take part in the Heritage Festival’s Star Gazing evening, 7pm, Saturday 4 April, Bicentennial Reserve, Small Street, Willoughby.
This year’s Heritage Festival theme, Our Place in Space Under the Southern Cross, highlights Australia’s history and contributions to research and discovery in astronomy and celebrates Australia’s involvement in astronomy.
Participating Astronomy enthusiasts are invited to bring along their own telescope and share their knowledge of the night sky.
“We should be delighted for local star gazers to share their knowledge of the stars with the local community,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly. “The event will provide a wonderful opportunity for the local community to get a taste of astronomy and discover the Southern Cross and more,” he said.
Now in its twenty-ninth year, the National Trust Heritage Festival will feature a range of events and activities within the Willoughby area and beyond. These events will include a wide range of community activities including star gazing, discovery tours, art exhibitions, walks and talks, from Saturday 4 to Sunday 19 April, throughout Willoughby.
For more information on the Star Gazing evening or how to apply phone 9777 1000. Applications close Monday 16 March.
