Water
Water is a very precious resource; all living things need it to survive. It doesn’t take much to contaminate our river and unfortunately when it rains the stormwater that runs off our roads and houses pours into our creeks, taking with it chemicals, litter, weeds and dirt.
Water restrictions have now been replaced by the NSW Government's Water Wise Rules.
The water in Willoughby’s taps comes from Warragamba Dam, but by installing a rainwater tank you could use local rainfall for lots of things, such as washing clothes and watering the garden. You can also reuse greywater, the water from your laundry, shower and sinks. Groundwater is not a suitable alternate water resource in Willoughby as it is too salty (due to the surrounding ironstone and shale), and is a long way below ground level.
