Sustainable Business

We will not reach sustainability without all sections of society being part of the solution. A key sector is business/commerce/industry.

In the past Willoughby has not given enough attention to this sector – but that is changing. Council plans to start up a Business Sustainability Committee, and employ a Sustainability Projects Officer, one of whose tasks is to build up our contacts and promote sustainability projects to the business community.

Another officer is encouraging businesses to take up the Sustainability Advantage audits developed by the Department of the Environment and Climate Change. We hope in 2008 to be able to offer a smaller sustainability audit to micro-business throughout the LGA.

Council is also working on ‘Cleaner Production’ with industrial and commercial businesses to help them reduce their impact on the environment by developing environmentally sustainable business practices… and saving money at the same time. Assessments are being conducted in the Artarmon and East Chatswood industrial estates.
