Within Willoughby there are more than ten shopping precincts. Chatswood in particular is a renowned commercial centre with over 800 retail outlets. There are major department stores and cinemas, as well as boutiques, and the nearby transport hub makes them easily reached by those within and beyond the area.
Council recognises the importance of its shopping precincts to the well-being of the area as places that provide convenience, employment and entertainment. Council assists both businesses and customers by addressing and monitoring issues such as traffic congestion and pedestrian access, and is working on new projects such as the installation of solar panels on Victoria Avenue.
By developing precincts that give the community somewhere safe to work, shop and play, Willoughby can look forward to even greater local pride and reduced crime. A relaxed atmosphere of outdoor dining and community activity turns a busy city environment into a friendly place to enjoy, which is just what our residents have said they want.
Beyond the Chatswood hub, there are commercial centres in suburbs such as Artarmon, Northbridge and Willoughby, along with the thriving Industrial Centre in Artarmon. Council is committed to ensuring that these businesses are not overlooked, and wishes to help each area develop its own identity.
