Enhance Habitat and Wildlife
If native animals and plants are going to survive long-term they need a healthy habitat. Bush regeneration programs, noxious weed removal and the protection of our Blue Gum High Forest are three key areas Council is concentrating on to improve local habitats.
Council are getting the community involved in improving local habitats through Bushcare projects, school groups, community groups, wildlife walks and talks. Members of the community help record wildlife sightings through the Willoughby Wildlife Watch Program, and participate in Bush Friendly Backyards and Nest Box projects. e.restore is also getting rid of pests such as foxes, feral cats and Indian Mynah birds.
Restore Creeks, River and Harbour
Restoring and rehabilitating all of Willoughby’s major creeks involves maintaining creek banks and harbour walls, managing noxious weeds and regenerating native vegetation along creeks, wetlands and estuaries.
Sediment basins are being constructed at stormwater outlets to reduce the amount and improve the quality of stormwater entering the waterways.
Particular sites of e.restore activity are along Blue Gum, Swaines and Coolaroo Creeks to improve the Lane Cove River, and along Scotts, Sugarloaf, Sailors Bay, Camp and Flat Rock Creeks to improve water going into Middle Harbour.
