Reducing our Impact

e.restore logo - transparent

Goal – To reduce pollution by changing Council management practices and operations and encouraging both businesses and residents to achieve high environmental standards.

Solar Powered Street LightsResource Conservation
As one of the largest organisations in Willoughby, Council is reducing its consumption of energy and water through Energy Performance Contracting. Council will employ an energy service company to improve energy efficiency that will pay for itself over time. It has also joined the ICLEI Water Campaign, an international association of local governments.

Stormwater Harvesting
Stormwater is being diverted, treated and stored for use on Council’s ovals. This saves drinking water and will reduce run-off that pollutes local creeks and waterways.

Transport Management
New solutions for neighbourhood public transport such as CouncilCab are being explored, and active transport modes such as walking and cycling are being promoted. Council is working with State Government to improve local and regional transport.

Walk This Way
Council is working on encouraging people to walk to the shops, work and public transport hubs by placing informative signs on routes. These signs give directions, and include the distance and estimated walking time. Footpaths are being improved, and seats, water bubblers and pram ramps installed.

Transport Access Guides (TAGs)
By identifying and giving information on major travel routes to colleges, hospitals, commercial districts and transport hubs, TAGs will encourage people to walk, cycle or take public transport to these places.
