Public Art

Mashman ParkPublic Art is art of any kind which is permanently or temporarily in public places such as parks, malls or public buildings. Public art can be sculptures, fountains, memorials and pavement inserts, or innovative functional items such as seating and railings. Artists are commissioned to produce art that enlivens public space and traces the history of the area.

Some sculptures can be seen at Currey Park, Willoughby Park, Beuchamp Park and Hallstrom Park. The Kids Cottage Community Centre has some great works of art. Examples of functional design are the railing patterns on the corner of Anderson Street and Victoria Avenue in Chatswood, and the Muston Park Bridge in Willoughby. These are just examples; there is a lot more art to be found!

For more details and pictures of public art in Willoughby, download the  Public Art Brochure or  Public Art Policy.

The Willoughby City  Public Art Policy - 22 KB describes Council's commitment to creating quality public spaces which reflect the different cultural identities of the Willoughby community. The integration of public art is required by some private developments as well as Council projects.
