Membership & Renewing Loans

You don’t need to live in Willoughby to join the library; you just need to be able to prove your name and address and we can give you a card immediately (those under 18 will need the signature of a parent of guardian). Your card will let you borrow at any Shorelink library (Lane Cove, Manly, Mosman and North Sydney).

If you are a member of any other Shorelink library, you can use your card in Willoughby but you may have different membership guidelines. Please ask at your issuing library for details.

Overdue fines: 25c per day per item payable by adult Willoughby Library members and all members of other Shorelink Libraries.

Borrowing

You must have your card with you to borrow. All items can be renewed once, using the online catalogue, in person, or over the phone on 9777 7900 unless someone else has reserved the item. If renewing over the phone, please have your card ready.

You can borrow the following items for three weeks:

  • 20 books and/or magazines (limit of 4 non-fiction per shelf number)
  • 4 ESL/Language Kits
  • 4 Children's videos
  • 4 Children's CDs and audio kits
  • 8 Videos
  • 8 CDs
  • 4 CD-ROMs
  • 4 DVDs
  • 8 Audio Books

You can return books to any of the Shorelink libraries, but all other items (including videos, DVDs, language kits, etc) and items borrowed from non-Shorelink libraries must be returned directly to the library from which they were borrowed. The only exception is when you have organised an inter-library loan through Willoughby Library. These items have a special card attached when lent, and must be returned to Willoughby City Library with the inter-library loan card.

Reserving

You can reserve items that are already out on loan, new titles and items on order, using the online catalogue. There is a fee of $2.00.

Books from Willoughby City Library's Offsite Storage and Stack may also be requested by placing an online hold.  There is no charge at Chatswood, Naremburn or Northbridge Libraries for books from Offsite Storage or Stack.  Items are usually available at Willoughby Libraries within two days unless others have reserved them first.

To put an item on hold:

  1. Go to the online catalogue and choose the library you wish to borrow from.
  2. Find the item you want in the catalogue, and click on ‘full details’.
  3. Click on ‘hold’.
  4. Enter your User ID and PIN to place the hold. (Your User ID is the barcode number on your library card, and your PIN is the last 4 digits of your library card number, unless you have changed it. You can change your PIN in the ‘my account’ section by following the prompts.)
  5. If you want to place a hold on an item in another Shorelink Library you will need to click on your browser's back button and then choose the library you want.

The charge for placing a hold at Chatswood, Artarmon, Naremburn or Northbridge is $1.50, which you can pay when you come collect the item.  There is no charge for items from Offsite Storage or Stack.

To hold a multi-volume item, magazine, or an item listed as ‘on the shelf’ you will need to contact the library.

If you have forgotten your PIN or have any other questions you can get help at the library, by phoning 9777 7900 or by emailing library@willoughby.nsw.gov.au.
