The Enviro-Grant for schools and community groups is an e.restore initiative to promote the active involvement of different parts of the community in environmental improvements.
Funding is available to assist environmental improvement programs such as water quality management, pollution reduction, sustainability and biodiversity.
Have a look at projects that have been undertaken in previous years:
There are a total of five grants of $3000 for any one project. Funds are allocated according to the assessed viability of the project and stated environmental outcomes.
Projects that were approved for funding in 2006 were:
- Artarmon Public School - Installation of a rainwater tank to increase student understanding of the importance and benefits of water conservation and management.
- Chatswood High School - Increasing biodiversity and encouraging native fauna and flora whilst managing erosion.
- Mowbray Public School - Installation of a rainwater tank for grounds and toilet use.
- Castle Cove Public School - Installation of five outdoor notice boards to reduce paper use. Aims at reducing paper use by 20 000 A4 sheets per annum.
Past funded projects from 2004 and 2005 are:
- 1st Willoughby Scout Group - Creation of an educational bush garden and meeting circle for use by Scout groups.
- Artarmon Public School - Soil preservation through erosion control and enhancement of biodiversity within the school.
- Chatswood Public School - Habitat creation with nest boxes and plantings.
- Castlecrag Progress Association - The creation of a booklet on growing indigenous plants for the suburb of Castlecrag.
- Castle Cove Public School - 50% reduction in water usage through the installation of dual flush cisterns within the school toilet block.
- Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School - The design and construction of an Environmental trail within the school grounds.
- Mowbray Public School - The design and creation of an environmental education and community information station.
- Northbridge Public School - The introduction of a School recycling program.
- Willoughby Public School - Installation of a rain water tank to water an organic produce garden.
- Willoughby Girls High School - Removal of noxious weed trees and rehabilitation of the front garden of the school.
Projects are to be completed within twelve months of receiving funds.
