Have you ever stepped outside your apartment block or house only to find a pile of broken furniture and rubbish sitting there? Have you ever left things you didn't want outside for someone else to clean up? That's dumping, and it's dumb. It's dumb because you're trashing where you live.
Dumping is illegal and anyone doing it can be fined $750. Why risk paying $750 when you could wait for a free clean-up or pay $33 to get it collected whenever you want?
Illegal dumping of household items is a growing problem in Willoughby. Unwanted mattresses, sofas, bric-a-brac, bags of garden clippings and appliances dumped outside apartment blocks are a common eyesore.
Our community as a whole needs to work together to reduce dumping and to achieve the great social and environmental benefits. These include improved visual amenity around multi-unit dwellings and improved resource recovery of dumped material (many dumped items can be reused or recycled).
Council staff will be actively investigating any illegal dumping that occurs in the area.
