Major transport projects are not usually controlled by Council, but Council can make requests as to how they proceed. Council's goal when working with the state government is to get the best outcome possible for Willoughby residents.
Chatswood Transport Interchange
The State Government's Transport Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDC) together with private-sector consortium CRI are currently re-developing the Chatswood Transport Interchange (CTI) at Chatswood Rail Station. Download the community updates for the latest construction details.
The Epping to Chatswood Rail Line will be an underground passenger rail service that will connect Epping to Chatswood via North Ryde. The line is due to be completed in 2008, operating fully by 2009. Council were involved in the design of the interchange to make sure it met the community’s needs. Once complete in 2007, it will be easier and quicker for the many commuters to get to Chatswood.
The transport infrastructure and retail components of the project will be developed over a three-year period under a public private partnership arrangement between TIDC and the private-sector consortium led by CRI. The total value of the project, including the residential towers, is estimated to be in excess of $360 million
CRI's development consortium includes Laing O'Rourke Construction Australia; the Commonwealth Bank, as financial advisors and arrangers; and award-winning architects and urban designers, Cox Richardson/Design Inc.
The Chatswood project will involve the construction of several components including:
- A new railway station with two new island platforms and commuter concourses
- A new relocated and upgraded bus interchange and taxi ranks
- Over 500 residential apartments in three iconic towers
- A residential car park and service area for 500 vehicles
- A 10,000 sqm convenience-based retail complex
