Traffic Committee

This is a Technical Committee of the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), not a Willoughby City Council Committee. Council has been given certain powers from the RTA in regards to traffic, but this comes with the condition that the Traffic Committee’s recommendations are taken into account.

The public can attend and speak about their traffic-related issues and concerns. The committee meets bimonthly, usually on the 3rd Wednesday at 9.30am.

There are four permanent members who each have a single vote. These are the NSW Police Service, the RTA, the Local State Member of Parliament, and Willoughby City Council.

If any voting member of the Traffic Committee disagrees with a Committee recommendation, or Council’s resolution, that member can lodge an appeal with the Sydney Regional Traffic Committee. The Sydney Regional Traffic Committee is chaired by an independent person, with its members selected by the RTA and who generally have a professional traffic engineering background. Any action related to an issue under appeal must cease until the matter is determined.

Traffic Committee meetings are chaired by the representative for Willoughby Council, a staff member of Council’s Transport Management Group.
