Community
There are around 64 000 people living in the Willoughby area, with a high number of daily visitors to the area. More than 39% of the population were born overseas, and around 28% speak a language other than English at home. This makes for a diverse community with a wide range of needs, which Council are committed to meeting.
Council provides many different social services to the community.
- The Aged & Disabilities Service provide both practical and emotional help to those who need a hand
-
Youth Services are eager to encourage and support young people with any issues they face.
-
Children’s Services aim to assist families by providing day care and programmes such as immunisation.
- For those who are not comfortable with their English, MOSAIC can provide information in their language as well as free English classes.
For all kinds of activities from Pilates to Tai Chi, as well as delicious cafe food, there is the Dougherty Centre. There are classes and education opportunities at Willoughby Park. Teenagers are welcome to hang out and play at the Youth Centre. Council also provides halls to hire, sportsgrounds, baths, a gym, and more.
The weekly Melody Market and the popular Spring Festival are just two examples of Council-organised community events.
