So you’re 12 to 18 years old, you want to hang with your friends but you don’t want to spend money or be hassled… where do you go? The Chatswood Youth Centre!
things to do
The Chatswood Youth Centre provides an information, recreation and referral service for all young people aged from 12-18 years. Feel free to come in and check it out. Lounge around, use the pool table, play ping-pong, try some rooftop basketball court, use the Internet, have a turn on the Playstation, use the study room and kitchen facilities... it's all free!
music room
There's also a fully equiped music room! It comes complete with instruments and other gear which can be booked for use by young people or bands under 24 who are just starting out. There's a PA system, mics, drums, guitar, bass and keyboard! Of course you can bring your own instruments too, and you’ll be shown how to set the system up. It's $3 an hour per band. If you’re going through a hard time and need some help our friendly staff can assist you access a range of youth-friendly services including accommodation, education, job seeker training, numeracy and literacy training, translation services, mental health and other health services, relationship counselling, Centrelink... and heaps more.
special events
From time to time the Youth Centre staff organise a special programs, workshops and special events specifically for young people. They could be anything from jewellery making to sports competitions, bushwalks, outings and concerts – so keep an eye out for promotional material at the Centre for things that might appeal to you. They might cost a little extra depending on the activity.
Basically, rock up and say hey!
Pretty soon there’ll be a public art project to get the front of the centre looking better, and we want your ideas and artistic talents! Some workshops will be up and running soon, so email youth@willoughby.nsw.gov.au or check back here later.
