Background
The whole Northern Sydney Region will benefit from the construction of Civic Place through the provision of a superior library together with community performance, celebration and meeting places. Civic Place is expected to be completed by late 2011.
Once complete it will provide a new library three times the size of the previous Victoria Avenue building which will allow the Chatswood Library to expand its collection and provide more community programs with better accessibility and security.
The creation of an outdoor meeting space with places to rest and relax will provide interesting areas for everyone to enjoy. There will be outdoor cafes and more retail venues open at night.
The creative arts community, who have been active users of the old Civic Centre, will be better served by the new Civic Place. There will be fantastic spaces for performances, rehearsals, workshops and meetings, as well as superior seating with great sightlines and well designed, practical behind-the-scenes facilities in the Concert Hall and Theatre.
Local businesses will benefit from the increased number of potential customers passing through the area and the consumer needs of artists, technicians and visitors. Civic Place will host corporate functions and conferences on a local, national and international scale.
The project will also increase the number of car spaces in the Chatswood CBD by providing 400 new spaces over two levels of underground parking.
